The article is devoted to the study of the methodological foundations for the formation of the research competence of the university lecturer that is necessary for the successful implementation of lecturer’s research activity. The paper describes the main characteristics of this concept and the features of its use, analyzes the definitions of the research competence in the scientific literature. The article defines the main components of the lecturer's research competence (motivational, cognitive, technological).
