Current trends in the economic and social development of society place demands on the individual, which include, among other things, a high level of professionalism, the desire for self-improvement and continuous learning. Particular attention is paid to the development of communication skills, which is reflected in the Federal State Educational Standard at the level of basic and secondary general education. The standard stipulatesthat personal, meta-subject and subject results of studying educational programs are associated with the communicative competence of students. Within the framework of personal results, attention is focused on the formation of communicative competence of schoolchildren in communication and interaction in various fields of activity. At the level of meta-subject results, it is assumed that the skills of solving communicative problems with the use of various speech strategies and tools are developed. Teaching speech strategies to schoolchildren is a methodologically sound and methodologically and technologically supported educational process.The purpose of the article is to describe the methodological foundations of teaching speech strategies to schoolchildren. The main theoretical and methodological approaches in the context of developing speech strategies in school students in the structure of communicative competence were described and substantively filled: systemic, activity-based approaches and the SMART approach
