Methodological Problems of Studying the Professional Identity of a Teacher

The article considers modern methodological problems of research into the professional identity of teachers. The author analyzes various approaches to defi ning and assessing professional identity, identifi es their strengths and weaknesses, and suggests discussing the possibility of an interdisciplinary approach in further research into the phenomenon of professional identity of teachers. Particular attention is paid to the problems of operationalizing the concept of “professional identity”, critical analysis of existing research in the fi eld of professional identity of teachers, as well as typology of research in this area. The importance of developing new tools for diagnosing and forming professional identity, including the use of textual and linguistic methods, is emphasized.
