This article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the mission of the modern university. The study focuses on the “third mission” of the university, reflecting its interaction with public and government institutions. The article reveals the relationship between the mission and the university model, and examines various typologies of university models and their corresponding missions. The authors substantiate the significance of the role of the university as an important actor in the process of social development of the state, implemented through the mission of the third generation, and also identify the tasks and problems of this development that can be solved through the effective implementation of the “third mission” of the modern university.
