It is impossible to imagine a modern economy without the service sector, which not only shapes it and provides widespread employment, but also causes innovative activity, which increases service and the standard of the population living. The service sector, for its successful functioning, must perform a number of tasks, such as staff training, providing high-quality service, introducing innovative technologies and adapting to modern customer needs. The analysis of the service sector versatility is based on various aspects consideration, from its origin to modern digitalization. It is important to take into account that the boundaries of the service sector are blurred, since service activities permeate almost all the economy sectors, acting in some as the main activity, and in others as an auxiliary activity. This heterogeneity and mobility of borders create difficulties for statistical accounting and reflection of the national and global economy structure.
