The article is devoted to the analysis of the diversity of approaches to interpreting the phenomenon of political correctness in the political discourse of Western countries. The author of the article tries to give a more complete interpretation of this phenomenon, not reducible to the prohibition, but presented where the interests of different groups of society are confronted on the question of what is considered true, false, whom to consider as "their own" and whom as "a stranger". It is revealed that the criterion determining political correctness is the private binary oppositions "own / alien", "true / false". In accordance with which member of the opposition is chosen as the "reference" reference point, the language code is corrected, the corresponding language norm is changed. The author comes to the conclusion that lexical units, somehow discriminating "their", are replaced by neutral or positive euphemisms.
