Molecular Pap test in postmenopausal women

The paper analyzes the possibility of differential diagnosis of precancerous processes and cervical cancer in postmenopausal women. For the first time, we showed the possibility of accurate classification of five clinically important groups: benign changes, LSIL (Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion), HSIL (High-grade squamous intra-epithelial lesions), squamous cell carcinoma, endocervical adenocarcinoma in postmenopausal patients based on the analysis of 24 genes mRNA expression in the Pap test CellPrep. Discriminant analysis revealed six genes most important for the accurate classification. The developed technique is a candidate for reflex testing in the practice of cytological diagnosis of precancerous processes and cervical cancer in postmenopausal women and is a basic model for the introduction of molecular Pap test in cervical cancer screening.
