The article deals with the analysis of the motive of going off to war and the return of the warrior using the example of V. Rasputin's texts. In the writer's prose, one can see a transformation of this, one of the most important in the prose of the second half of the 20th century motives. War - as a transition from the countryside sacred space to some alien expanse - predetermines the fate of the heroes: readiness to protect is one of the significant characteristics of Rasputin’s male images. The fulfillment of the mission makes it possible to return to the sacred space through the ritual of inclusion, retreat leads to the rejection of fate, the impossibility of returning to the patriarchal way of life.
