Motivation as a factor of personality focus on professional and family career during the period of emerging adulthood

The study is relevant due to the requirement to design a life strategy by a person in modern society, when transitivity and high social uncertainty exist. The novelty is determined by the study of the role of motivation in building balanced career plans in the professional and family spheres during the period of emerging adulthood. The aim of the research is to study the connection between the motivation of female students and their orientation towards family and professional careers. We used the method of motivational inductions by J. Nuttin and the author's questionnaire “Professional and family career”, aimed to identify career strategies in these areas. The sample consisted of 158 female students from 18 to 22 years old from Moscow and Penza. 4 groups of female students were identified, differing in the profile of the motivational orientation (self-knowledge, communication, selfdevelopment and self-realization, hedonism). The cohesion between motivational focus and career development strategies of an individual in the professional and family spheres is revealed. A priority focus on family career and parenting with a motivational orientation on communication and the focus on a professional career or to combining careers with a focus on self-realization and self-development were traced.
