The Russian school museums - in many respects the unique museum and pedagogical phenomenon. As well as the school museums in Europe and America, they are created at schools, but thematically are not the "children's", "pedagogical", "educational" museums, as in other countries. The school museums, on the classifications of the Russian specialists in museum management intended for increase in efficiency of teaching and educational process, development of informative and creative activity of pupils, formation of skills of the value-oriented relation at them to historical and cultural heritage, familiarizing with it are created on the basis of general education educational institution as the museums of a wide profile, as the centers of the museum and pedagogical and local history work integrated into teaching and educational process. Complexity of tasks of the museums of modern school determines character of the calls facing pedagogics, cultural science and museology. The institutionalization of museum pedagogics as branches of cross-disciplinary humanitarian knowledge took place quarter of the century back. The young science endures the development period. Discipline terminology is formed, for example, continue to remain not divorced such basic concepts as "a lesson in the museum" and "a museum lesson". There is open a problem of substantial filling of professional competence of museum pedagogics. The scientific and methodical literature devoted to work of the school museums places emphasis on their extracurricular and educational activities. Article is devoted to the analysis of a role of the museum of educational institution in modern educational process.
