This article is a review of the fundamental monograph ‘N. N. Strakhov: His Personality, His Creative Work and His Time’ by Valery A. Fateyev. Since Strakhov made a significant contribution to various spheres: philosophy, natural science, literary criticism and journalism, the author has concentrated on several directions, in which Strakhov was a trend-setter - on his teaching about the central position of man in philosophy, on the specific features of his attitude to spiritual anthropology and on Strakhov’s biological ideas, which predetermined a number of 20th-century concepts, especially that of nomogenesis. A characteristic of Strakhov’s predilection for the Native Soil Trend is given, and enduring actuality of adherence to national culture and ruinous influence of a loss of touch with the native soil both for the nation and each individual human being are emphasized.
