The relationship between the national idea and the state ideology in relation to modern Russia is analyzed in this article. The author proceed from the premise that the “post-partisan ideology” and “integrative national idea” concepts express two vectors of Russian constitutionalism. The first vector that became decisive in post-Soviet Russia in the 90s is associated with the ideology of “deideologization” which practically means a liberal cultural and civilizational development model. The second vector, associated with the integrative role of the national idea, means an appeal to traditional values, where not an individual, but a genus, a collective, a society as a whole is the benchmark point of the Constitution and the state ideology respectively. Hence the singularity of the “strong power” and “powerful state” concepts which are traditionally associated not with tyranny but with protection in the Russian mentality. As a result, according to the modern Russian state ideology, a powerful state should rely not only on the system of formal law and impeccable execution of laws, but also on the traditions of popular support for the government. In modern Russia the civic spirit means not only a developed legal consciousness but also patriotism, where the protection of state sovereignty and support for the national armed forces is embedded.
