The article considers the narrative as a transformed form of reality. Since the narrative is usually understood as the presentation of some events with the participation of intermediary persons (characters, narrators), it is necessary to analyze the very characteristic of this mediation. The narrative is found in a variety of areas of cultural practice, but it is most in demand in literary texts. Accordingly, the main attention is paid to this area of the narrative. To get an idea of the narrative as a transformed form of reality, it is necessary to reveal the structure of the transformed form itself. The transformed form is the result of the resolution of contradictions in the system, or system inversion. System inversion is a form of relations in a hierarchical system. In this case, some subordinate element acquires a dominant value, formally remaining in its former low position. This provision is contradictory, but the contradiction can be resolved by completely moving this element to the highest position in the hierarchy. This is exactly what happens with an artistic text when the dominant function of this text is the transfer of aesthetic emotion from the author to the viewer, and not a «complete and reliable» representation of reality. The direction of this tendentiousness is determined by the personal characteristics of the author: his apperception, his temperament, and finally, the history of his own creative achievements. This selectivity of perception and reproduction creates the opportunity to awaken aesthetic emotion in the reader, and this is what becomes the most important thing in a literary text. As a result, the narrative becomes a transformed form of reality, because it does not reproduce it, but inevitably transforms it in such a way as to cause an emotional reaction of the reader.
