Inheritance of yield traits in sunflower seeds

Information on the inheritance of most utilitarian traits of agricultural crops, including sunflower, is of crucial importance in the process of creating new highly productive hybrids and varieties. The article contains numerous results of research of Russian and foreign authors on the problem of inheritance of yield traits and yield structure of sunflower seeds. The general idea of quantitative and qualitative inheritance of traits, as well as models of gene interaction is given. It is noted that yield and elements of yield structure (seed weight and their number per a head, 1000 seeds weight) are controlled by dominant, additive, and epistatic interactions of genes and/or their combination, depending on sunflower genotypes used in the studies. Some scientists have found a positive correlation between seed productivity traits in parental lines and their firstgeneration hybrids, while in other studies this correlation was insignificant.
