The article considers how a dysfunctional family influences the nature of children's mental development. It has been found that in psychology the attempt to systematise a typology of family upbringing is often reduced to the distinguishing of features of happy and unhappy families, the criteria for determining which are insufficiently developed. The authors analyse the factors of psychological health of a family, the interpretation of which has allowed to compare selected types of dysfunctional families with accepted forms of psychic deprivation that affects the psycho-physical development of children.
