Modern trends and manifestations of the national culture, marked by the turning point of the post-Soviet period, carry similar features of another, no less dramatic situation in the national history - the milestone and long-suffering era of the nineteenth and nineteenth centuries. This civilizational kink and, as a result, the ongoing ideological, socio-psychological changes in all spheres of culture, is known as the phenomenon of decadence. The phenomenon of decadence is a trend in culture, creative thought and, accordingly, in the literature of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which is characterized by accentuated manifestations of aestheticism, individualism and immorality. At the same time, its progressive and innovative character is also obvious. The material of this article gives a brief analysis of these phenomena in Russian culture and, in particular, in literature, which, in our opinion, allow us to better understand the causes of those trends, which can be traced in the sociocultural space and in modern times.
