The aim of the study was to investigate variability of protein metabolism indices in the blood of Poltava meat breed sows during the evaluation of various crossbreeding options. The research was conducted on three groups of sows with different genotypes: Group I - purebred Poltava meat breed sows (n=17); Group II - sows obtained by crossbreeding with 12.5% Finnish Landrace blood (n=8); Group III - sows obtained by crossbreeding with 12.5% early maturing meat breed blood (n=8). Protein metabolism parameters in the examined sows of all groups, with the exception of the de Ritis coefficient, were within the reference intervals. The lowest coefficients of variation were found for total protein, albumin and globulin (from 2.34% to 9.74%), while the highest were for AST and ALT activity (from 37.75% to 56.82%). The use of various inbreeding options in the main sows of Poltava meat breed did not lead to reliable changes in the average values of protein metabolism parameters. The infusion of Finnish Landrace blood led to an increase in the variability of protein metabolism parameters (with the exception of the de Ritis coefficient) from 0.44% to 18.63% compared to purebred sows. The infusion of early-maturing meat breed blood resulted in decreased variability in total protein (by 1.71%), globulin (by 6.83%), urea (by 10.96%), A/G (by 3.33%), albumin/urea ratio (by 20.88%), globulin/urea ratio (by 11.43%) and the de Ritis coefficient (by 5.83%), respectively. Using Finnish Landrace to improve productivity leads to more pronounced shifts in protein metabolism fluxes and requires greater attention to animal breeding conditions, as the desired improvement strains the protective, adaptive and adaptive qualities of sows. Improving the adaptability of sows through the reserves of early-maturing beef breed blood leads to less significant changes in protein metabolism and lower strain, compared to a pure genotype.
