Modern Mongolian languages are studied and described to different ways, and some of them are still little known to science, so the descriptive period of studying Mongolian languages is still relevant in Mongolian studies. The article contains some information about the Ordos, Ordos dialect of the Mongolian language, and also about contemporary studies of this dialect. It is believed that the ethnonym "ordos" comes from the word "ordo" (in Turkic "ordo" means "royal palace", in Mongolian "ordo or ordon" "khan's palace", and "-c" - plural affix). This is due to the fact that in 1227 after Genghis Khan's death his son Ugedei ordered to re-equip his father's 8 yurts to "ordo" (palace, cenotaph), where weapons, banners, clothes and other religious objects of the great conqueror were stored. Then the common noun "Ordo" was transformed into the ethnonym "Ordos". There are various opinions about the qualification of the Ordos dialect in the system of the Mongolian language. Among the dialects of Inner Mongolia, they usually refer to the Ordos language as the most famous in the literature and preserving some features of the old-written Mongolian language in a "pure" form. According to the census data, 143783 people speak Ordos dialect. The language and demographic situation in the khoshuns, where the Ordos live, is extremely difficult. In four out of the seven khoshuns, the Ordos make up about 4% of the population, while in the rest khoshuns, the Mongolian population is 1.7-6.6% of the total number of inhabitants.
