The article deals with linguistic and extra-linguistic factors affecting the quality of translation and interpretation. The Russian language is investigated as a target language. The peculiarities of translation and interpretation are analyzed as along with current processes in modern Russian. The main concern is expressed about the great number of unnecessary borrowings from English and American which threatens national identity of the Russian language.
