The article provides information about mentoring in higher education institutions. It's designed to help young faculty get a foothold in the workplace. People have not yet invented a better way of transmitting life experiences from one generation to the next than personal contact and interaction between people of different ages. A well-designed mentoring system in an educational institution should serve as an incentive to change a young educator for the better, and with him, the entire organization. Inexperienced specialists become professionals as they work with their mentors. It is emphasized that in modern Russian higher education the personnel is rapidly aging, and young teachers are not eager to start a career as a university teacher for a number of reasons, one of which is the high workload and the need to comprehend the complexities of the profession independently. Accordingly, in addressing this issue, the mentoring institution can play a key role.
