The article is devoted to the analysis of works of representatives of Western social and political thought, which assesses the contribution of the Soviet Union in the defeat of German Nazism. Having considered the works of such researchers as A. Buchanan, M. Kaden, D. Coulter (USA), A. Buchner, K. Reinhardt (Germany), E. Beevor, N. Davis (UK), the author concluded that many of the foreign authors in the assessments of the outcome of the Second World war fit with obviously biased positions. On their part, attempts to minimize the contribution of the multinational Soviet people in defeating Nazi Germany. The article reveals the inconsistency of the views of Western scholars who try to accuse the Red Army in illegal actions against the inhabitants of the countries of Eastern Europe. The author also shows the role played by the Soviet and Russian cinema in the reflection of the theme of the great Patriotic war.
