About the need to develop students' skills to work with an English-English dictionary

The article considers the issue of expanding the vocabulary of students for the implementation of communication in English, and also assesses the possibilities of working with a dictionary article in an English-English dictionary in English lessons. As a result of the research, based on the analysis of scientific views on the chosen problem, synthesis and generalization, the author comes to the conclusion that working with such a dictionary is an integral part of the activity in the lesson, which should be given special time and attention, since it develops the word - formation, lexical and grammatical skills of students. In addition, the essence of such concepts as “monolingual dictionary”, “dictionary entry” is studied, and an algorithm of working with an English-English dictionary is also given, which most effectively allows you to develop these skills.
