On the borderline state of mathematical knowledge of first-year civil aviation cadets

The article aims to identify some of the problems of the borderline state of learners' knowledge. The possible difficulties of the initial period of training at the university of first-year cadets are considered, related to the perception of lecture material in the discipline “Higher Mathematics”. Newly enrolled cadets experience certain difficulties in perceiving new mathematical information, since listening to a lecture involves the ability to perceive and understand the speaker by ear. During the lecture, first-year students need to easily operate with already known and new mathematical concepts in conditions of a large amount of information. The material in higher mathematics involves a high level of thinking, which is a source of difficulties for yesterday's schoolchildren in adapting to the academic process at university. The paper examines the incoming level of young people's skills related to understanding the language of mathematics at the school-higher education level. The results of the study of the state of comprehension by first-year students of mathematical concepts in terms of accuracy of definitions are given. It is foreseen that they may have difficulties in comprehending lectures on relevant sections of higher mathematics course. Conclusions are drawn that unclear interpretation of the concepts used in the educational process may affect the process of professional formation of future specialists in aeronautical orientation.
