The purpose of the study is to determine the powers of the prosecutor aimed at implementing his function of establishing objective truth when the body of inquiry (investigator) checks reports of a crime and makes a final procedural decision on it. The article formulates the concept of objective truth established at the stage of initiating a criminal case. The author concluded that this function at this stage is implemented indirectly, including through the body of inquiry (interrogator). The powers to establish objective truth at the stage of initiating a criminal case, exercised by the prosecutor in relation to the inquiry body (inquirer), are divided into those carried out during the investigation of the crime report by the inquiry agency (inquirer); when the body of inquiry (inquirer) makes a final procedural decision based on the results of consideration of a report of a crime; when considering complaints from persons whose rights and legitimate interests were violated by actions (inactions) or decisions made by the body of inquiry (inquirer).
