On the basic statements of Ma Jianzhong's grammar theory

The article discusses the appearance of grammar as an independent linguistic discipline in China. “Ma shi wen tong” (1898) - the first grammar work, written by Chinese man - played an important role in this process. It is noted that Ma Jianzhong for the first time in the history of Chinese linguistics offers the system of parts of speech, the case system, the system of sentence members; leads a clear terminological apparatus for his grammatical system; contributes to the change of the subject of study in Chinese linguists, and assists the beginning of modern period of Chinese linguistics development. The connection of this grammar theory both with universal European grammars and with the works of Chinese scholars of the traditional period of Chinese philology is traced in the article.
