On German poets of baroque trend epigrammatic style features

This article regards some features of epigrammatic style of German authors, belonging to the literary trend of Baroque. On the base of famous poets` works material is studied the nature of stylistic means used to create imagery and emotionalstylistic expression in descriptions of historical events, episodes and individual characters. The results of multiaspect analysis of poetic material carried out in the frame work of this research prove that the literary language of German Baroque classics is distinguished by a large diversity of stylistic devices, such as epithets, antitheses, oxymoron, comparisons, metaphors, allegories, puns, etc., used both to characterize the individual characteristics of certain persons, images, and to create a general event background. Moreover, when describing surroundings, any separate events, situations and impressions, the authors resort not only to different tropic means, but also to stylistic figures, such as: parallelism, asyndeton, complex syntactic structures, chiasmus, rhetorical questions and exclamations, etc., designed to perform both cognitive and nominative, as well as figurativeexpressive functions in a complex. On the whole, the material of present study may be of certain interest to specialists in the field of Stylistics and History of German Language, Theory of Literature and used in teaching special courses in higherschools.
