The article analyzes the attitude towards New Religious Movements (NRM) in modern media discourse on the example of the sect «Family» by Charles Manson. The analysis of several feature films and TV series devoted to this religious organization in the period from the middle of the 20th century to the present day is carried out. The dynamics and nature of the attention paid to this minority religious group and its founder are clearly demonstrated. Using the example of several of the most popular films and TV series, it is shown that, depending on the type of film, the ways of presenting the material vary, but there is a certain typological similarity, which is expressed in the general ideological orientation of these products of the film industry - the formation of a negative image of NRM in cinematic culture and its broadcast to a wide audience of modern society.
