Japan’s Educational Policy in the Post-War Period: Main Directions and Trends

In 1945, Japan was defeated in World War II. The country was completely devastated. Japan's industrial and transport structures were damaged. The occupation period lasted until April 1952. During this time, significant political, military, economic and social reforms were carried out. After 1945, the education system underwent changes due to both the post-war situation and the need for further development. Of great historical importance is the adoption of a democratic constitution, according to which social transformations began to be carried out, including in the field of education. This article examines the main directions and trends of Japan's educational policy in the post-war period, which ensured the democratic character and accessibility of the higher education system, determined its role in the economic development of the country and the search for a new identity in the era of globalization.
