General characteristics of female education in Russia in XVIII-XX centuries

The article provides an analytical overview of the main stages of formation and development of female education in Russia, represented in the second half of XVIII century in the form of separate educational institutions run by the state, since its formation until the beginning of XX century. At that period, it was possible to speak about the female educational system, which was the result of social activities and social initiatives of Russian progressive intellectuals.
