The article discusses the stages of teaching translation listening to senior students of a classical university majoring in "Translation and Translation Studies". Translation listening has specific features in comparison with listening comprehension as one of the activities for language acquisition. The characteristic features of translation listening are presented; it is seen as a preparatory stage for teaching consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Students perceive the sounding message not in order to answer questions, but in order to understand the entire volume of information for the formation of a secondary text-utterance. The teaching-aid package on translation listening contains preparation stages that consistently reflect those types of activities that help you achieve the goal of forming the necessary skills of an interpreter. In the course of professional training of translators, students master various types of activities that are designed to form the necessary skill, namely the ability to perceive authentic speech by ear at a natural pace for native speakers, regardless of the peculiarities of pronunciation and the speech channel.
