The article discusses the goals, objectives and content of teaching grammar in a non-linguistic university. The formation of a foreign language communicative competence, declared as the goal of modern foreign language education, is impossible without the grammar of the foreign language being studied, the formation of grammar skills. According to A.N. Shchukin, the main qualities of grammar skills are considered to be automatism, faultlessness, consciousness, a low level of tension in performing a speech operation. An insufficient level of formation of grammar skills prevents the use of a foreign language in personal and professional communication. In a non-linguistic university, much attention should be paid to the formation of receptive grammar skills, since a significant amount of study time is devoted to working with texts for special purposes.
