Teaching Latin clinical terminology to overseas students in Russian: difficulties and ways to overcome

The article deals with the main aspects and difficulties of teaching Latin to overseas students at the medical university. The purpose of the article is to analyze the features of teaching foreign students Latin clinical terminology in Russian. The choice and combination of different teaching methods directly affect the motivation of students, as well as the level of knowledge and skills acquired by students at the end of the course. The authors noted the fact that students’ different levels of Russian language proficiency directly affect the speed of learning Latin, and the teacher’s task is to arouse conscious cognitive and practical interest among students in Latin classes. The authors scrutinize such methods of the educational process as the method of associative connections, a visualization method, a method of searching for a similar Latin morpheme in terms of the Russian language, as well as a brainstorming method. Moreover, the authors highlighted the ways to solve the identified problems and the conditions for the most effective learning of clinical terminology in the course of Latin. In conclusion, the authors set out the tasks of further research into the issues of teaching Latin to overseas medical students in Russian.
