Writing skills training: comparative analysis of linguodidactic approaches

The article describes and makes a comparative analysis of the two main technologies in teaching writing in a foreign language - the Model Text Writing approach and the Process Writing approach. The comparison is made according to the following parameters of learning activities: classroom/extracurricular time, teacher energy expenditures for preparing/conducting classes, evaluation and feedback system, and ways of learning activities in the light of the latest theories of linguodidactics (ways of information processing and level of language training, student autonomy and “theory of discovery”, interdisciplinary links).The results of an experiment, conducted in 2020-2021 showed that process writing approach enhances such aspects of students' writing skills as communicative aim or task achievement, coherence and cohesion of speech. The student survey revealed that the “procedural” approach is more consistent with students' expectations from the foreign language course, develops general humanities skills and emotional intelligence, and promotes adherence to the principle of interdisciplinarity in English language teaching.
