The most widely used production systems, such as automatic lines (AL) and flexible production systems (FPS), have a number of features that do not allow them to meet modern requirements. Automatic lines, having high productivity (mass production) when switching to the production of a new product range, require significant capital investments and are accompanied by long downtimes. Flexible production systems have lower productivity (mass production) in comparison with automatic lines, but have significant flexibility when switching to new products. However, a high level of flexibility is often excessive and characterizes the high cost of FPS. In this regard, at present, in mechanical engineering, much attention is paid to the development of reconfigurable production systems (RPS), systems capable of producing products with mass production productivity and flexibility of FPS. One of the most important and little studied areas of the theory of creating reconfigurable production systems in Russia and abroad is the issues of ensuring and determining PPP reliability indicators.
