Assessment of the Level of Development of Refl exive Abilities and the Focus of Refl ection of College Students in the Process of Personal and Professional Self-Determination

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the role of refl exive abilities and their orientation in the personal and professional self-determination of college students. The purpose of the work was to assess the level of development of refl exive abilities, to identify the prevailing orientation of refl ection (retrospective, situational, perspective) and to establish their relationship with the success of personal and professional self-determination. The study involved 150 students of 1-3 courses of Moscow colleges (average age 17.8 years). The following methods were used: A grant for the diagnosis of the level of refl ection and its orientation, the author’s questionnaire of satisfaction with professional choice and the scale of formation of professional plans. The following were revealed: the average general level of refl ection among students with positive dynamics by the senior years; a pronounced imbalance of orientation (retrospective dominates; only 10% of students have perspective refl ection); pronounced positive. the correlation of the prospective orientation with satisfaction with the choice and formation of plans, and the negative correlation of the retrospective orientation with satisfaction with professional choice. It is established that the dominance of the analysis of past experience with a lack of skills in designing the future limits the eff ectiveness of personal and professional self-determination. The conclusion is made about the need for the purposeful development of perspective refl ection (professional goal setting, planning) in the educational environment of colleges.
