The experience of studying the methylation status of the promoter region of the MGMT gene as a basis for creating a register of patients with tumors of the central nervous system

Summary The study is devoted to the research of the methylation status of the promoter region of the MGMT gene in patients with tumors of the central nervous system. Objective: to study the status of methylation of the promoter region of the MGMT gene in patients with different histological types of tumors of the central nervous system. Material and methods. The study was performed using a methyl-specific polymerase chain reaction on a series of 244 tumors. Results. The methylation status of the promoter region of the MGMT gene was analyzed in a series of 244 samples of predominantly glial tumors in adult patients. In 74 cases (30%), the tumor had a 45 methylated MGMT gene. A molecular genetic database of patients with malignant brain diseases has been created. Conclusion. The results of the molecular genetic research will be the basis for creating a database of patients with neurosurgical pathology. The identified clinical and molecular genetic characteristics in the near future can be used to develop modern approaches to the prediction and treatment of malignant diseases of the CNS.
