Experience of using "Boychun" herbal medicine in complex treatment of deforming gonarthrosis in the conditions of local balneology

The article is aimed at studying the efficiency of traditional oriental herbal medicine "Boychun" in complex treatment of gonarthrosis in Goryachinsk Resort (the Republic of Buryatia). The experimental group consisted of 10 people aged 40-60 years with chronic internal derangement of knees in remission, they received complex treatment (balneotherapy, mud therapy, physiotherapy and herbal therapy with "Boychun"). The comparison group involving 8 patients with gonarthrosis got balneotherapy, mud therapy and physiotherapy, with the exception of herbal therapy. The control group of 8 patients with gonarthrosis didn’t receive complex treatment and herbal medicine "Boychun". To clarify the diagnosis, we used the "Diagnostic Clues for Knee Pain" (Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines, 2001). For clinical assessment of joint health we used the following scales: pain severity scale, measurement of knee circumferences and joint mobility. Patients of the experimental group showed a pronounced anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, analgesic, regenerative effect in the early stages of treatment (on the 4-7th days) in contrast to the comparison group and the control group.
