The relevance of the theoretical study is related to the renewed Federal State Educational Standards in Russia which clarify the requirements for extracurricular activities at school. The purpose of the study is to reveal the essence and content of extracurricular activities and their arrangement. The research deals with the concepts of extracurricular activities in different periods in Russia. The influence of education reform on its content and development is noted. The research considers the teaching arrangements conducive to the development of skills in teachers of extracurricular activities. Mentoring is the main skill as it is the most effective form of teaching assistance and support. The author concludes that training educators to carry out extracurricular activities at school is an important and necessary condition for their effective arrangement. It contributes to the fulfillment of the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standards as well.
