Features of accentuation of the character and copying strategies of smoking youth

The study attempts to identify the psychological characteristics of the personality of a young people that contribute to their addiction to smoking. The experimental part of the work included a questionnaire (questionnaire “On Attitude Toward Smoking”), a coping-test by R. Lazarus and S. Folkman and a technique for diagnosing the character accentuations of K. Leonhard and G. Shmishek. The subjects were divided into two groups: smokers and non-smokers. Representatives of both groups are dominated by coping strategies such as self-control and problem-solving planning. Significant differences between the groups of respondents for copings were not identified. The leading accentuations of character in the group of smokers are anxious and demonstrative, non-smokers are exalted and stuck. The research materials can be used in the activities of clinical psychologists in the development of psychological support programs for people with nicotine addiction.
