Features of the Gospel of John translations into Georgian

Georgian translations of the Bible represent examples of the Georgian tradition of the Holy Scriptures exegesis and therefore are of interest to modern biblical studies. The article deals with the features of Georgian translations of the Gospel of John examined with the use of the comparative analysis method. The principles that the authors of ancient and modern Georgian translations were guided by when choosing the original text are shown. The features of how the content of theological terms is conveyed in the Georgian language are presented. The variety of difficult passages interpretations of the Georgian translations is illustrated. Review is made of the resources of the Georgian language to convey specific ancient Greek grammatical forms and the content of ethnocultural concepts. An overview of the features of several Georgian translations of the Gospel of John is provided.
