Modern teachers work in conditions of social transformations, technological shifts, and new concepts of educational development. This creates intergenerational contradictions between teachers and schoolchildren, which are not observed during stable periods of societal development. In addressing this problem, the authors analyzed and synthesized the literature and practical recommendations for teaching mathematics in accordance with modern requirements and the recommendations of the Concept for Mathematical Education in the Russian Federation. Research of the 4C model as an effective methodology for teaching mathematics demonstrates the feasibility of using integrative methods. These include project-based and research-based learning activities combined with the development of social collaboration skills, crea¬tivity, and critical thinking in students. Incorporating the approaches of the 4C model into the training of students at pedagogical universities contributes to the formation of an innovative orientation in the pedagogical competencies of future teachers. The results of the survey of 47 students and 9 primary school teachers showed that using this methodology in teaching mathematics enhances the development of specific competencies in primary schoolchildren, particularly communication and cooperation.
