Peculiarities of the use of monological statements in the process of teaching professionally-oriented English to students of advertising and public relations

The article considers the use of tasks in the format of a monological statement as a tool to form the skill of oral speech in teaching English for special purposes to students trained in “Advertising and Public Relations”. This type of task contributes to the development of thinking and improvement of practical skills of students, which is essential for their use of a foreign language in situations of professional communication. A 2019-2021 study was conducted at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University to determine the effectiveness of monologic statement format assignments. There were 160 students who participated (80 for the 2019-2020 academic year and 80 for the 2020-2021 academic year). The results of the study demonstrate positive changes in the formation of the students’ speaking skills. Significant improvements are noted in the following parameters: the content of the monological statement, discursive competence and the degree of completion of the task.
