Features of language anxiety and psychological barriers of non-linguistic students in the process of learning the English language and ways to overcome them

This paper discusses the current issues of language anxiety and psychological barriers that arise in students of non-linguistic areas in the process of learning English. Moreover, the results of the manifestation of psycho-emotional reactions in the perception of communication in a foreign language are investigated, techniques and recommendations for their reduction and overcoming are given. Language anxiety is a personality trait of a person who learns a foreign language, which is expressed in communication difficulties (in this case, in English). At the same time, it is a kind of psychological barrier - a mental state that inhibits development. A high level of language anxiety and psychological barriers negatively affect the development of knowledge in the process of learning English. The survey involved 100 1st-year students of non-linguistic areas of the university. The results of the survey showed that male and female students in varying degrees face problems of language anxiety and psychological barriers. The purpose of this research is to study cases of language anxiety and psycho-logical difficulties in foreign communication. Based on the purpose of the study, the formation of methods, techniques and recommendations aimed at reducing and eliminating the described problems is the task of research work. It is concluded that the use of methodological techniques is the creation of an interactive mini-book Lap-book, modeling of game situations (author's techniques “Visitor” and “Objects"), the delayed feedback method, which helps students overcome the psychological phenomena under study.
