Today we are witnessing a civilizational shift, in which we are confronted with changes in the institution of the family and marital partnership. A progressive society focused on strengthening the institution of family and marriage, and which is showing increasing signs of decline, has to face this societal challenge. The article examines the peculiarities of ego-identity and value orientations of married subjects with and without children. The theoretical aspect presents generalized characteristics of personal identity, describes the status of identity, offers interpretations of the phenomenon in various concepts and models. The interrelation of identity and value orientations of the individual, taking into account the specifics of family relations, was substantiated. The selection of diagnostic tools has been carried out. “The status and ego-identity structure test (SEI-test)” was used to diagnose the structure of ego-identity according to the method of E.L. Soldatova. The Schwarz questionnaire (QO) was used to study the system of values. In order to identify the ego-identity and value orientations of married subjects with and without children, a study was conducted among 100 respondents - married couples with and without children. In examining ego-identity statuses, statistically significant differences were found between men and women in marriages with children. Data from men with and without children in marriage and women with and without children in marriage were compared.
