Peculiarities of students’ self image with different verbal self-presentation: the gender aspect

The article focuses on the relevant issue for the development of self-consciousness in late adolescence of the gender specificities of the self-image of university students with different verbal self-presentation. The study included young people who studied at the university in 2009-2010, as well as current students. During psychodiagnosis, respondents introduced themselves using a randomly composed pseudonym. Accordingly, all of them are divided into three groups: ladies with gender-stereotyped verbal self-presentation, ladies with non-stereotyped verbal self-presentation, and young men. The study defines that the representatives of the first group are characterized by a weaker content of self-image, less focus on self-improvement, compared to non-stereotypical girls who present themselves. Young men's ideas of self-image are more limited to their professions and careers, or to obtaining material benefits. The results obtained must be taken into account in psychological and pedagogical work with students, expanding their ideas about themselves and their future and aimed at overcoming narrow gender-stereotyped self-perceptions.
