The cultural and aesthetic development of primary school students is a multi-faceted process resulted in the development of the child’s personality, moral qualities, needs for creation. Like any educational process, the cultural and aesthetic development of this category of students requires teachers to create the favorable educational environment represented in the Federal State Educational Standard of Primary General Education in order to make this process effective. The Standard lays stress on acquiring the necessary competence by students that is greatly supported by project activities. The paper deals with the aspects of the cultural and aesthetic project activity arrangements in contemporary primary school. The authors consider the relevance of and the basic requirements for applying the project method to cultural and aesthetic activities at primary schools within the above-mentioned Standard. The common stages of students’ project activities in the arts are reviewed. The research describes the challenges faced by teachers when planning, implementing and evaluating the progress of cultural and aesthetic project activities of primary school students.
