The article is devoted to a complex research study of the organisation of research activities of instrumentalists at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and conservatories in Russia. Analysis of the characteristics of the two educational systems has shown significant differences in the formation of the learning process, the content of related disciplines and the requirements for students' final qualification works. The characteristic of the Russian model is presented, demonstrating the established traditional system that guides and organizes the learning process at all levels of education. The originality of the French model is revealed, which is an extensive flexible multilevel system that is more oriented to modern reality, demonstrating readiness for constant adaptation. The description of the French and Russian systems is presented sequentially, highlighting the features of each of the three levels of higher education, identifying the fundamental trends organizing the causal relationship of content and structure. The innovative, modern approach of French teachers towards training instrumentalists-performers is of great interest to Russian researchers-methodologists and is worthy of introduction into the domestic system of music education.
