Кровотечение является основным осложнением во время любой хирургической процедуры. Уровень послеоперационной госпитальной смертности коррелирует с объемом кровопотери. По данным Carson с коллегами, уровень смертности в 8%, характерный для кровопотери в 500 мл, возрастает до 42,9% при кровопотерях на уровне 2000 мл [13]. Эту зависимость можно также выразить регрессионной формулой «смертность (%) = = 0,0002*кровопотеря (мл) - 0,0363», которая позволяет спрогнозировать риск для пациента в заданном диапазоне кровопотери. Для снижения риска смертельного исхода от осложнений, связанных с кровопотерей, современная хирургия использует специальные гемостатические материалы местного применения, способные эффективно останавливать кровотечение там и тогда, когда применение коагуляционных электрохирургических систем либо опасно для пациента, либо нежелательно.
