In the article, the authors pursued the goal of developing an interregional tourist route (a large hiking trail), aimed at the formation of such a type of personality as an eco-man (according to Pakhomov Yu.N.) through environmental enlightenment and education by means of tourist and excursion activities, and representing safety -service as a new mechanism for adapting to the current restrictions and the well-known decrease in the tourism industry due to the coronovirus pandemic. As a result of field trips (reconnaissance), the authors compiled a track route, identified difficult sections, observation points, successful overnight stays, etc. combines natural, historical and cultural objects of the territories of two constituent entities of Russia (St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region). Along with this, the researchers, analyzing the existing large hiking trails, both domestic and foreign, have drawn a typology of large hiking trails, and are trying to substantiate the eco-route as a safety service that meets the requirements of the existing conditions of known restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. The practical significance of the work lies in the diversification of tourist routes in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, which is one of the main tasks of the corresponding program documents of these constituent entities of the Russian Federation, i.e. we are talking about the development of a new tourist interregional route. In the future, the authors plan to mark the trail, register the route on the portals of Rutrail and the Directorate of Protected Areas of the Leningrad Region, develop and conduct sociological issues to fix the formation of ecological consciousness. The key function of such trails is organizing for the formation of ecological tourism clusters.
