Personal qualities and professional skills and knowledge of a specialist in “helping” professions are interdependent and interconnected. The formation of a professional orientation and a student's personality as a specialist starts from the moment of choosing and accepting the future profession. Therefore, an important task is to analyze the professional and ethical qualities of students and their impact on the effective work of providing assistance to people in need. Based on the data of a socio-psychological study using specialized techniques, the article identifies the features of the professional and ethical orientation of students of “helping” professions and analyzes such personal attitudes as altruism and egoism, tolerance, conscientiousness and empathy. The manifestation of personal qualities is proven to have an impact on the future professional activity of students in “helping” professions, including professional burnout, to a greater or lesser extent.
